Tesla wants to start producing autonomous “robot taxis” in 2024

Tesla plans to begin manufacturing autonomous “robot taxis” in 2024. The revelation was made by Elon Musk at the company’s financial results conference for the first quarter of 2022.

According to Tesla’s CEO, the “robot taxis” will have no steering wheels or pedals, taking advantage of the company’s self-driving technology. For Elon Musk, the bet could be a “strong driver” of Tesla’s growth.

During the conference to present the results, the official acknowledged that the vehicles produced by his company are priced beyond the reach of many people. The introduction of “robot taxis” would be a way to reverse the situation, providing consumers with a transportation service that Tesla estimates would cost less than using public transport.

However, the goal presented by the company may be too ambitious, as it has a period of only two years to develop, test and start mass production of the vehicles, not counting the time it takes for the project to be approved by the regulatory bodies.

Despite this, the company’s prospects remain, supported by financial results that exceed expectations. In all, Tesla reported revenues of approximately $ 18.8 billion in the first three months of 2022, up 81% from the same period last year. Its profits have also soared, hitting the $ 3.3 billion mark.

Please note that, in early April, during the opening of its new facility in Austin, Texas, the company announced some of its plans for the future. According to Elon Musk, the goal for 2022 is to scale the production of its factories and, next year, it will be the massive launch of new products, including the Cybertruck. The launch of the Tesla Bot could also be in the company’s plans for 2023.
